Why is San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star (三元玄空飞星) important?

Estimated Reading Time: 3 mins

In Imperial Feng Shui, San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star is a basic principle that forms our understanding of a house or office’s energy chart. Also known as Flying Star Feng Shui, it is a discipline of Feng Shui that integrates the concepts of the Five Elements, Eight Trigrams, Lo Shu numbers, Planetary stars and 24 Mountains.

How does San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star affect me?

Living and working in environments with optimal Feng Shui empowers individuals with abundant wealth, fortune and success — allowing for monumental breakthroughs across their endeavours. Therefore, a precise analysis of a property’s flying star chart facilitates the understanding of different environmental factors of your property. This also helps in predicting the wealth, health and prosperity of a property’s occupants.

How does San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star work?

The practice of Flying Star Feng Shui takes into consideration the Feng Shui period of the property — in which a 180-year timeline is divided into nine blocks, each spanning 20 years. Each home belongs to a specific Feng Shui period and requires an energy chart unique to said period.

An accurate reading of a property’s San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star chart begins with an experienced Feng Shui master measuring the facing direction of a building, assessing the intention of the building, and plotting its astrological chart based on the Feng Shui period the property belongs to. In Imperial Feng Shui, the authentic method of determining these environmental factors begins with a Feng Shui master measuring the facing direction of the property’s main door. This is done by tucking the Luo Pan (罗盘), a highly-precise Feng Shui compass, against it. This reliable method results in a consistent and accurate measurement of a property’s facing direction.

Understanding the Flying Star chart

In the study of Imperial Feng Shui, each home and office have important sectors that amplify the flow of auspicious energies within the property, thereby enhancing the well-being, prospects and wealth of its occupants.

In each Flying Star chart, the number on the left side denotes the Sitting Star (mountain star) of the property, whereas the number on the right is defined as the Facing Star (water star). The sitting and facing directions determine a property’s wealth sector.

Importance of Mountain and Water Stars

In Imperial Feng Shui, the mountain star governs benefactors, health and harmony. On the other hand, the water star governs opportunities and intuition — as referenced in the Imperial Feng Shui principle, 山管人丁,水管财.

Activating the Mountain and Water Stars in the appropriate sectors garners benefactor support, boundless opportunities, health, harmonious relationships and overall success.

In Imperial Feng Shui, the positions of mountain and water stars change every 20 years, in accordance with the length of a Feng Shui period. Imperial Feng Shui masters during the Qing Dynasty found it technically challenging and economically unviable to orientate and reconstruct important palace structures to harness auspicious mountain and water landforms with each change of the Feng Shui period.

In searching for a solution, Emperor Qian Long and his team of Imperial Feng Shui masters gave rise to some of the most significant artefacts in Chinese history — the Qian Long Jadeite Mountain and Imperial Harvest-grade natural crystals. These powerful artefacts were ingenious and practical alternatives to harnessing the power and energy of the auspicious mountain and water stars, without the expensive and impractical reconstruction of imperial complexes. The application of both of these Imperial Feng Shui treasures within the imperial court catalysed the success and prosperity of the empire, and built one of the most successful dynasties in Chinese history.
