The Seventh Lunar Month has always held a distinct place in Chinese metaphysics. It is the month when the veil between the realm of the living and the realm of the departed draws closest, when unseen energies move more freely, and when the year’s fortunes can tilt sharply if left unguarded. In 2026, the Seventh Lunar Month spans 13th August to 10th September, a 29-day window during which two of the most revered protectors in the Chinese spiritual pantheon each mark their sacred day.
On the 17th day of the Seventh Lunar Month, devotees honour the birthday of Victorious Fighting Buddha Sun Wukong (斗战胜佛孙悟空) — the symbol of victory (胜利的象征), undefeated in all battles (战无不胜), whose fourteen years and eighty-one tribulations (十四年，九九八十一难) earned him elevation by the Buddha himself. Thirteen days later, on the 30th day of the Seventh Lunar Month, the calendar turns to the birthday of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva (地藏王菩萨) — the Earth Treasury King bound by his Great Vow (宏愿): 地狱不空，誓不成佛；众生度尽，方证菩提 — to remain until every last soul is freed, the embodiment of absolute, unyielding compassion.

Every ritual Grand Master David Goh performs is an act of inheritance as much as it is an act of consecration. For this year’s Double Blessing Ritual, he draws upon two lineages simultaneously: the lineage of Victorious Fighting Buddha Sun Wukong (斗战胜佛孙悟空), transmitted through generations of practitioners who have called upon the undefeated Monkey King’s hard-won triumph, and the lineage of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva (地藏王菩萨), carried forward through the doctrinal and ceremonial protocols reserved for the Earth Treasury King’s Great Vow.

The Ceremonial Anchor: Imperial Harvest Red Earth Agarwood Victorious Fighting Buddha Sun Wukong (斗战胜佛孙悟空)
At the centre of the altar stands the Imperial Harvest Red Earth Agarwood Victorious Fighting Buddha Sun Wukong, the ceremonial anchor through which the ritual’s celestial energies are received, concentrated, and distributed to every treasure brought before it.
Sun Wukong (孙悟空) is the symbol of victory (胜利的象征) — undefeated in all battles (战无不胜). He endured fourteen years and eighty-one tribulations (十四年，九九八十一难), and it was this endurance that saw him elevated by the Buddha as the Victorious Fighting Buddha (斗战胜佛). Along the way, benefactors from the Three Realms of Heaven, Earth, and Water (海陆空的三界贵人) — such as Guan Yin (观音菩萨), the Dragon King of the East Sea (东海龙王), and Tu Di Gong (土地公), and more — answered his call whenever the trials grew hardest, a history now carried into this anchor as the capacity to summon benefactors of one’s own.
Every carved detail continues the same doctrine. His Fiery Golden Eyes (火眼金睛), forged in Tai Shang Lao Jun’s Bagua Furnace (太上老君的八卦炉), grant clarity to see past appearances and recognise potential where others overlook it; his Fiery Body (火炎之身), tempered in the same fire, became an Indestructible Body (金刚不坏之身) as unyielding as vajra, impervious to blade, flame, or blow. His Seventy-Two Transformations (七十二变) bless adaptability in a fast-changing world. In one hand he holds the Ruyi Golden Cudgel (如意金箍棒), strength scaled to any obstacle; in the other, a Heavenly Peach (蟠桃) blessing not just health and vitality, but longevity in career and business. The Somersault Cloud (筋斗云), a flying technique taught to him by his master Puti Zushi (菩提祖师), carries the speed to seize the moment before it passes.

There is no other vow in the Buddhist canon held so absolutely, for so long, on behalf of so many — and it is this that establishes Kṣitigarbha as the embodiment of absolute, unyielding compassion.
That same vow is what gives this ceremonial artefact its unshakable determination. A vow held across countless ages, without hesitation or condition, becomes a steady commitment carried directly into the destined owner’s own path — the quiet assurance that whatever the trial, the commitment to see it through to success and spiritual fulfilment does not waver, and does not expire.
Kṣitigarbha’s title, the Earth Treasury King (地藏), reveals the second dimension of this artefact’s power. Earth (地) represents the ground beneath current circumstance — the potential not yet uncovered, the resources not yet drawn upon. Treasury (藏) represents the vast store held within that ground, waiting to be reached. Together, they describe a Bodhisattva whose nature is to open what is sealed and reveal what is hidden — reflected in his wish-fulfilling prowess, the boundless capacity to answer what is asked of him and draw forth favourable outcomes precisely where it is needed.
This same storehouse nature turns inward. Kṣitigarbha is revered as the Bodhisattva who uncovers your hidden potential — not granting wisdom and capability from without, but uncovering the treasury of wisdom and potential already held within the destined owner’s own mind, long before circumstance calls upon it. Placed across the altar by Grand Master David Goh personally, the Imperial Harvest Clear Quartz Eight Treasures Ceremonial Artefacts (八吉祥) establish the ritual’s sacred perimeter. The Eight Treasures trace their origin to the moment following Shakyamuni Buddha’s enlightenment, when the gods descended and presented these eight symbols as offerings to the newly awakened one. Each corresponds to a specific aspect of the enlightened form:

The Seven Steps of Consecration

Step 1: Ignition of the Big Dipper Constellation Candles

Across this Double Blessing, the invocation carries particular weight — addressing Victorious Fighting Buddha Sun Wukong at the height of his triumphant strength, and Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva at the fullness of his protective compassion, calling both guardians to preside over the ceremony as one.
Step 4: Consecration of the Bespoke Talismans
With the portal open, Grand Master David Goh consecrates the hand-drawn talismans prepared for this ceremony. Each talisman has been individually inscribed prior to the ritual with specific celestial characters corresponding to its intended purpose. Each treasure is placed before the ceremonial anchor, and Grand Master David Goh anoints it with Imperial Harvest ceremonial vermillion, applied by his own hand along the inscription pattern of its bespoke talisman. Step 7: The Closing Prayer
The final step mirrors the third.
